NICU--Day Number 6

Isn't it crazy that our precious little miracles will be 1 week old tomorrow? We have been truly blessed during the past week and we cannot express our gratitude enough. Whitley and Wyatt have come a long way--and put a smile on our face each day.

This morning, me and Jared woke up early after not getting to bed until 2 a.m. We were so ready to visit our little ones. Jared called the NICU at 2 to see if they were still closed. He was informed that they were now open. He woke me up so we could go visit our precious babies and tell them "goodnight". However, to our surprise--the NICU was closed again not five minutes after being told it was open. We managed to come back to the trailer and get a decent amount of sleep. But, this morning---you could not keep us away.

After visiting Whitley and Wyatt, we both headed back to Balmorhea. I was able to get a few loads of laundry done, repack my suitcase, take a much needed relaxing bath, drink my own sweet tea, visit my dog, and then jump in the pickup to head back to Odessa. It was really nice visiting home since I haven't been there in 6 weeks.

My mom and dad are coming to stay with me tomorrow while Jared is working. We are heading back to Balmorhea on Saturday to do some spring cleaning on the house. Jared did a very well job at keeping it clean during his "alone" time at the house. However, you know how us girls are---we need a clean house.

On to the babies--since that is what this wonderful blog thing is about anyway! Wyatt is doing so awesome. He only had one of his little apnea spells this morning at 8. The nurse said he has been a "good little boy" all day. I don't know what these rates mean (but I will give them to you anyway). The nurse said that he is at a 15 and 5. They like to have him at a 14 and 4 before they take him off the vent. Hopefully, if he continues to do well, they will have him off the vent in the next few days. We are so excited. I can't wait to see his precious little face without all those ugly tubes.

Little Miss Whitley is doing AWESOME! She is moving more and more by the day. It is so good to see her squirm around so much. They were able to take her off the high frequency ventilator and move her to a conventional ventilator today (which is what Wyatt is on). This is such a blessing. Her nurse is so amazed at how well she is doing.

We were told to expect ups and downs. They might be asking too much of her too early (and she will definitely let them know). They might have her on the conventional vent and then have to move her back to the other one. Same for Wyatt--they make take him off the vent and have to put him back on. We know things like this will happen, but how can they get better if they don't try.

I can't wait to go see them in the morning to see what kind of improvements they have made throughout the night. It is so amazing.
